Blatchington Mill School wins INNOV8 2012
Thank you to all those who entered Innov8 and have helped get the word out since we launched the competition in August. We are really pleased with the quality and number of entrants. The process of choosing the five finalists was not easy and having to decide who wins the competition and the £5,000 prize will be harder still. We need your help so please check out the five ideas and vote for your favorite.

AFL (Assessment for Learning) – Simon Knight
AFL is a set of tools that utilize mobile technology to bring AFL alive in the classroom. Direct feedback loops between the class and the teacher facilitated through live visualized AFL data allows teachers to see who is struggling at a glance and also over time through data capture and analysis. 4Decades – Stefan Kreitmayer
4Decades is a gaming platform that can support a range of strategy game scenarios played by teams that take place over, as the name suggests, 4Decades. The first game developed using the platform is about Climate Change and teams represent key players (the UN, national governments, local government) making decisions that, quite literally, change the world. MySA – Mike Mompi
Building on the success of the work of My Bnk, a financial literacy programme for young people, MySA is a mobile gaming environment in which players are challenged to manage simulated personal finance situations over time, aiming to build up a savings pot. Having secured the support of real banks, young people’s success in the game will be rewarded by their points being turned into real money in an actual savings account. Find out more
PingPanel – Peter Nixey
A PingPanel is a group of ‘experts’ made up of learners, researchers, teachers and others with an interest in helping learners who come together around a particular area of shared expertise. Via mobile learners can a PingPanel questions that might be to do with a particular assignment or choices around choosing subjects at GCSE or A Level or deciding what course to do at University or College. As the PingPanel is made up a range of people, the learner raising the question will get a rich diversity of input from a range of points of view helping them make informed decisions having considered various options. My Science Lab – Year 10 students from Blatchington Mill School, Hove
My Science Lab uses the unique functionality of smart phone and tablets such as tilt and turn and touch screen controls to support a range of MiniLabs. These are playful hands on science experiments that learners can access outside the classroom so if they missed a class or want to try experiments again to increase their understanding, they can do so off line, in their own time, on their own device.
