My Science Lab

My Science Lab allows students to replay experiments on their smartphones that they missed either through illness or because they find it hard to concentrate. Consisting of a series of ‘Mini Labs’ based on key experiments, the tilt, rotation, touch screen and voice control functions of the smartphone combine to increase the fun and instant accessibility of scientific experiments. My Science Lab will also enable students to record the results of their experiments.
During the research into My Science Lab, 75% of students stated that they prefer learning visually and kinesthetically. The Mini Labs will provide a mobile science lab that allows students to interact with experiments in their own time on their own devices. This will build success at GCSE and A Level by refreshing the student’s mind and increasing the amount of accuracy in practical test conclusions.

In time, Mini Labs will be developed in all Biology, Chemistry and Physics with Mini Lab levels challenging students as they progress through courses and from GCSE to A Level. However, the obvious starting point is physics where the functionality of the phone allows for instant interaction to create fun playful interaction with experiments such as changing the angle of a mirror to change direction of a laser beam or flicking planets into orbit.

Quantum Games consists of four year 10 students studying GCSE Computing at Blatchington Mill School, Hove.
